Competencies

NOTE:  All Telecommunicator positions with the Regina Police Service start out as casual with the ability to obtain permanent status.

The training for this class will start Monday, September 29, 2024.  Compensation is also provided for the entirety of the training period.
(1)    Minimum Grade XII or Grade XII equivalent, minimum typing speed of 50 w.p.m., Windows computer knowledge and experience working with the public.
(2)    Must pass mental abilities, multi-tasking and psychological tests.
(3)    Good listening skills and the ability to articulate and/or speak clearly that can be easily understood.
(4)    Hearing:  Must provide hearing test results prior to hiring.
(5)    The ability to function under stressful situations, adverse mental influences or circumstances.
(6)    Good coordinating abilities and the ability to plan and organize activities and details for smooth occurrence of events.
(7)    Good judgement and decision making abilities in order to: assess situations, select from alternatives and make sound decisions.
(8)    Must be willing to work shift work on a rotating basis (days, nights, evenings and weekends).
(9)    Thorough knowledge of the streets, districts and commercial and industrial areas of the City of Regina or good map reading skills, an asset.
(10)  Must be obtained from classroom training provided: Knowledge of emergency and police procedures, communications technology and discrimination of civil and criminal matters and the ability  to use alpha, phonetic and nine and ten codes for radio communications.
(11)  After three completed years as a permanent Communications Officer, must partake in the APCO Communications Training Officer (CTO) course and participate as a trainer in the CTO program for 8 years at which time they may opt to retire from being a CTO.
