Description

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Prevention Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Prevention Team in developing and implementing programming that promotes cultural development, language, traditional values, positive, healthy social interactions, and family preservation. The Prevention Coordinator will honor traditional customs relevant to SLFNs rich cultural history.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Assesses preliminary prevention calls to determine if it is a prevention file or requires further intervention services and make referrals.
    Completes assessment and makes recommendations on how to proceed.
    Builds and maintains relationships and networks with community partners.
    Prepares monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports as required.
    Evaluates the provision of services to ensure quality and adherence to policies and funding guidelines.
    Supports members in locating and/or providing relevant programming to families, parents, children, and youth.
    Supports members in locating training opportunities.
    Develops prevention activities/services and healing interventions that support children, youth, and families, such as recreation, parent education programs, family enhancement/preservation supports, cultural and traditional supports, in-home supports, respite care, legal services for mental health and addictions and community prevention efforts.
    Assists the prevention program with the mandate of reducing the number of children going into care.
    Works with the prevention team to support the identified gaps and implement required prevention activities.
    Assists in developing a wholistic approach for Prevention Services

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS AND ABILITIES / ATTRIBUTES:

    Cultural understanding of First Nations.
    Strong communication skills.
    Basic understanding of applicable legislation.
    Understanding how Nations work on and off reserve, governance, and child welfare.
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
