The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO), Canadas Centre for Pandemic Research, is a world leader in infectious disease research and vaccine development for humans and animals. Located at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, VIDO is home to one of the largest and most advanced containment level 3 facilities in the world. To strengthen the preparedness for emerging infectious diseases we are currently expanding our infrastructure to include containment level 4 capacity, a GMP vaccine manufacturing facility, and a new animal housing facility. Our vision includes having the capacity to study any emerging disease in any animal model embracing a One Health approach to prevent emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in humans and animals.
We are seeking a Research Technician to join our dynamic team. The Research Technician will be responsible for performing laboratory experimental activities as well as accurately recording procedures used and data generated.
The focus of the successful applicant will be the development of a pseudotype library, including the development and qualification of the associated assays.
Qualifications
An undergraduate degree in biology or a technical diploma in related field, with a specialization in virology or molecular virology.
Experience in handling mammalian cell culture, eukaryotic viruses, and molecular virology techniques such as cloning, transfection, immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy, immunoblotting, virus neutralization assay, virus quantitation (plaque assay and TCID50 assay), and virus pseudotyping.
Minimum 5 years of experience in molecular virology
Certification to work in a containment level (CL) 2 lab
Willingness to obtain certification to work in a CL3 lab is an asset
