The General Counsel is responsible for providing high-quality, comprehensive, timely legal services to Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS) and its subsidiary Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation (SaskGaming) in all aspects of their business operations.
The key roles of the General Counsel include, but are not limited to:
- Providing legal advice to LGS and its subsidiary, SaskGaming, in relation to corporate activities, including formulating legal strategies and options, identifying and analyzing potential liabilities, assessing risks and developing mitigation strategies
- Advising on, negotiating, preparing, reviewing and approving legal memoranda and agreements, including liaising with corporate personnel and external parties in furtherance of advisory work.
- Providing legislative services and advice to LGS and SaskGaming, including analyzing and reviewing amendments to legislation, regulations or Orders in Council and drafting, interpreting and advising on legislative and regulatory amendments.
- Providing advice on matters related to corporate governance, board authority and responsibility and due diligence matters and statutory responsibilities.
- Provide advice to LGS or SaskGaming on matters related to labour relations as it pertains to regulatory, legislative, and contracts for union and non-union issues.
- Providing Secretariat support to relevant boards as needed, including drafting written resolutions, convening and organizing meetings, preparing agendas, reviewing and revising materials, attending board meetings and working with Crown Investments Corporation (CIC) to ensure appropriate minutes are taken and distributed and direction provided as appropriate.
