This is a Canada Summer Jobs funded position. Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada, be 15-30 years of age, and be either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have been granted refugee status.LGBTQ2, Indigenous, and racialized youth are encouraged to apply.
Required: Criminal record and vulnerable sector check, current first aid and CPR, availability to work several weekday afternoons, ability to travel to outdoor locations throughout the city, and access to a personal cell phone.
Key Tasks:
Support an engaging, child-centred learning environment.
Adapt and respond to the needs of children in an ever changing environment.
Planning and preparation of outdoor learning experiences with guidance and instruction from the Lead Educators.
Support and mentor children's play-based learning.
Support the basic needs of participants: snack, clothing, bathroom breaks.
Participate in planning and debrief meetings
Administer basic first aid as needed
Comply with all Wildernook Policies and Procedures.
Skills and Experience:
Experience in Education, Early Childcare, other (e.g. working in a day camp setting).
Experience working with children of a range of ages and abilities.
An interest in play-based and child-centred learning.
Prepared to be outdoors for extended periods of time in a variety of weather conditions, including winter.
Must be physically able to stand, sit and walk on uneven ground for several hours at a time and lift a small child (30-40lbs).
Prior experience in facilitating environmental or outdoor education would be an asset.
Certifications:
Standard First Aid and CPR-C
A clean Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector Report
Post secondary training in education is considered an asset
Hours and Salary
$15 per hour
Must be available to work weekdays
