Deli Clerk Job Description
A Deli Clerk will address customer service concerns and answer questions pertaining to items solid in the deli. Deli Clerk ensures the store's appearance aligns with the company standards and keeps displays well-stocked and organized. Duties include slicing meats and cheeses, taking inventory of products and talking with customers about the types of produce on display.
Responsibilities
Provide outstanding guest service by greeting customers, suggesting menu items, efficiently making sandwiches, slicing meats and cheeses and completing sales.
Prepare sandwiches, salads, soups, subs, burritos, side dishes and other food products.
Supervise, schedule and train staff on proper operation of the deli: operating all equipment, safe food handling and preparation, kitchen safety techniques, handling stock, pricing and stocking merchandise, housekeeping standards, merchandise presentation, customer service, and follow-up on complaints.
Prepare, administer and be responsible for sales, margin, expenses and inventory of the department.
Stay knowledgeable of Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalls.
Maintain a well-organized and orderly deli department that aligns with the company's image and sanitation standards.
Qualifications
3-4 years of experience working in a deli retail or food prep.
Slicer, oven, microwave, and scale knowledge.
Basic math skills are needed to accurately weigh and calculate deli items.
Ability to multitask and balance the needs of several customers at once is mandatory.
Ability to spend an extended period working in a standing position.
Some heavy lifting is required (up to 50 lbs.).
Work Environment
Most of the time will be spent standing on hard cement or tile floors.
At times floors may be wet; therefore athletic shoes with good traction are recommended.
May be exposed to extremes in temperatures when going in and out of large freezers or opening and closing commercial oven doors.
