Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Social Programs, or her designate, the Mentor will assist in the supervision of the youth in the Residential program.   A Mentor is a responsible adult who primarily are within our Mentored Homes and provided support, encouragement, positive role modeling and day-to-day accountability within the home. The Mentor primarily is in the homes during the late evening and night hours and can sleep. They are responsible to ensure all youth are safe, accounted for and must be available to the youth if needed.


Duties
Ensure all youth in the home are safe and accounted for
Must be available throughout the night in the event a youth needs assistance
Build healthy relationships with the youth/caseworkers
Be a healthy, positive role model & contribute to an atmosphere of safety/trust in the home
Encourage youth to share in the household responsibilities
Actively participate in chores, maintenance of the home, monthly fire drills, youth logs & provide other documentation as required
Assist youth in learning basic life skills (personal hygiene, cooking, shopping, budgeting, etc)

Qualifications
Min. 2 years post-secondary education in a relevant field
Min. 6 months experience working with youth
First Aid/CPR
Non-violent crisis intervention training
Suicide intervention training
Food Safety training
Valid drivers license

Knowledge
Must have working knowledge of the Power-Sharing Model or experience working as a mentor, and/or parenting skills
Clear understanding of best practices when working with youth in care
Some familiarity with the problems and characteristics of disadvantaged persons
An understanding of government and community programs and facilities related to youth and their problems
A working knowledge and experience working in a residential facility for at risk youth

Hrs of work: Part time rotational shifts for the hours of 10:00pm  8:00am
