Description

The LLRIB Health Services Department is currently seeking applications for a Permanent FULL time  Parent Support Worker, and  Community Health Representative for the community of Sucker River. As a Parent Support Worker, this position will be required to assist the Maternal Child Health Program by improving health outcomes for pregnant women and families with infants and young children, by focusing on culture, role modeling, health teaching and by linking with community resources. As a Community Health Representative, the aim will be to empower community members to make healthy decisions, through demonstrating, teaching and providing support and encouragement with the focus on addressing health needs of the community under the supervision of the Public Health Nursing Manager.

Duties:
    In-home support, utilizing a strength based model, with families who have children between the ages of 0  6 years;
    Teach individuals and groups about health promotion topics;
    Assist the Maternal Child Health Supervisor to provide and deliver programs and services;
    Advocate, refer and act as a liaison for families;
    Assist in the delivery of health programs by obtaining consents, transporting community members, booking Child Health Clinics, participating in community health fairs, events and activities;
    Carrying out health promotion and illness prevention programs by planning workshops, in-service sessions, community education events and developing public awareness materials;

Qualifications:
    Minimum Grade 12; CHR certificate and/or a related health care certificate preferred; Combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
    Personal experience as a parent or caregiver of infants &/or young children;
    Knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010 including Outlook;
    Ability to speak and/or understand Cree is a definite asset;
    Excellent organizational skills; Ability to work within multidisciplinary team;
    Must have a Class 5 Drivers license;
