The suitable candidate will be able to perform the following duties:
Teach Career Guidance to all grades on a regular basis;
Give presentations on career and education related topics;
Implement a guidance program for students in class or arrange for resource people as requested;
Help students apply for; university, vocational trades and funding;
Act as a Liaison between students home and school;
Maintain relationships between home and school by maintaining parent/guardian involvement;
Make referrals to school Social Worker or other agencies as needed;
Provide students and their parents with information on school policies, procedures, community agencies and services that are available;
Keep up with current practices on different programs, colleges, universities and what they offer along with admission, tuition, requirements;
Research and keep up to date with applicable scholarship programs, job opportunities for students who may not wish to pursue higher education;
Correspond with students, parents, colleagues, and other agencies to provide them with pertinent information regarding questions or concerns.
Create brochures, letters, or pamphlets to provide information to parents, colleagues, students or the community.
Other work-related duties as requested by Immediate Supervisor;
The suitable candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Education, Social Work or a relevant field;
Minimum 2 years in Social Work or guidance Counselor experience is an asset;
Essential skills: planning, problem-solving, decision-making, leadership and counseling skills;
Strong communication (written and verbal), public relations, computer, and organizational skills;
Must have a Valid Class 5 Drivers License;
Must be able to provide a recent and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and SGIs Driver Abstract.
