Nature of Business
The North West Catholic School Division No. 16 serves 2000 students in eight schools. This Division administers five schools within the City of North Battleford, and one school in each of Wilkie, Unity, and Spiritwood. The Division came into existence with the amalgamation of North Battleford RCSSD#16, Wilkie St. George RCSSD#85 and Unity RCSSD#88 effective September 1, 1997. The three Boards of Education made the decision to amalgamate after an extensive consultative process during the 1996-97 school year. A further amalgamation occurred in the fall of 2003 with the inclusion of the Spiritwood RCSSD#82.
The four Boards of Education are confident that the decision to amalgamate ensures the continued existence of quality Catholic Education in each of the four communities.
At the present time, an eight member board is elected to serve a three-year term in accordance with the Education Act. The board consists of five members-at-large from North Battleford, and one member-at-large from each of the towns of Wilkie, Unity and Spiritwood. This Board sets all policies for the school division and is ultimately responsible for its operation.
